GCC EARNS THE HONOR AS WINNER OF THE JAPAN QUALITY MEDAL
GC Corporation (headquartered in Itabashi, Tokyo and represented by Mr. Makoto Nakao, President & CEO) was certified with the Japan Quality Medal*, the highest authority on the quality control in the world.
On November 9, the 54th annual awards ceremony was held at the Japan Federation of Economic Organizations in Tokyo. Mr. Hiroshi Okuda, Chairman of the Deming Prize Committee & Chairman of the Japan Federation of Economic Organizations awarded GCC the Medal and the Certificate of Merit. The reason behind GCC winning the Japan Quality Medal is "GCC introduced quality control system for the first time in 1967. In 1981, the company declared introduction of GQC (General Quality Control): quality control by the company as a whole under the management concept of "For social contribution, quality first and the group of GC associates," based on materialization of the company philosophy "Semui" – universally pursued since the company’s establishment. After the declaration in 1981, the company put TQM as the core of their management system and was certified with the honorable Deming Application Prize in 2000. Even after receiving the Deming Application Prize, the company has not only continued to improve their highly-evaluated advantages, but also seriously analyzed items for improvement and taken the necessary countermeasures. Under the strong leadership of the president, the company has continued to promote TQM activities and succeeded in attaining management results. In other words, the company has steadily carried out development of management policies based on the mid-term management plan for realization of Vision 2010. They have steadily gained management success by proactively promoting excellent quality management system, including development of new technology and new products, improvement of productivity and realization of quality assurance system at the respective work process levels through factory innovation program, innovation of production management system, centralization of information using IT, human resource development based on the list of required skills, quality management, environment management, etc." On November 10, a special meeting in honor of winners was held at the Japan Federation of Economic Organizations and Mr. Nakao, President & CEO of GCC gave a memorial lecture.
*Japan Quality Medal This Medal was established commemorating the first International Quality Convention (ICQC’69 Tokyo) held in Tokyo in October 1969 with surplus of the Convention as funds and for the purpose of reminding and enhancing the significance of the establishment of this convention in years ahead and also for further developing quality management in the industry. So far 17 companies including Toyota Motor Corporation certified in 1970 have enjoyed the honor as winners. A qualified applicant should be a company or an operation, which has continued to pursue TQM for more than three years after being certified with the Deming Application Prize and realized corporate goals.
